Biometric Cell Phone

Biometrics is evolving at an astonishing rate.  So much so that fingerprint scanners are becoming extremely mainstream.  One of the newest uses of fingerprints scanners is on mobile phones.  No gimmicks, no fake scan your fingerprint on the touchscreen, its an actual scanner on the phone.  This technology is on the Motorola ATRIX 4G on AT&T.  Check out this video for a demo of the scanner.  Does this make any of you want to pick up an ATRIX? I know the phone's features are definitely tempting.

  1. I like this technology but it also seems like a pain I mean even in the demo they had to swipe numerous times. Also, if you lose your phone how would a nice person that found it be able to call the home number in it to return it?

  2. They scan multiple times in the demo to register your fingerprint for the first time. After that you can scan only once and it should let you access. As for your second point it is a risk I for one am willing to take.

  3. I like this for the aspect of mobile banking that people do more often now. If you were able to keep your finger on the screen the entire time and once you remove it, the screen goes blank, it would really make mobile personal information safer and hopefully cut down on identity theft.

  4. @Bre:
It would be nifty if they added a feature into the phone in case you lose it. Like, limited access to for people whose fingerprints it does recognize; information like whose phone it is and where to send it.

  5. Ditto on Cold Steel's comment. For mobile banking and everything else I keep in the Droid, it would be nice to have the security. But I do worry about it malfunctioning and being locked out of my phone.
